The comparison between metal and plastic has always been a much debated topic. In fact, until some time ago, plastic products were considered to be of lower quality than their metal analogues. Nowadays, however, advances in the production and industrial processing of plastic materials can increasingly better satisfy the demands of many sectors.

When we talk about plastic, we generally refer to a series of organic substances made of polymers, that is, molecular groups organized in repetitive units, pure or mixed with additives. The most common polymers are derived from petroleum, but there are also plastics developed from other sources.

Plastic is considered a newly invented material, but its origin goes back to the early civilizations. In fact, some natural polymers such as amber, horn and rubber, the structure of which inspired the invention and production of modern plastics, were already used by man in ancient times.

With EU Directive 2019/904, the member countries of the European Union, by 3 July 2021, will have to ban many disposable plastic products for which there are alternatives, impose the economic participation of producers to the costs of disposal of some plastic waste, and undertake initiatives to promote the recovery, recycling and reuse of materials.

In order for the characteristics of a plastic road barrier to meet the needs of operators, customers and the public, it is not enough to dwell on the exterior, on a general feeling of quality, or on hearsay. As with any product intended for professional use, it is important to know what are the parameters to be considered for an objective and effective evaluation.
